Memoir and Motherhood: Writing Through the Complexity
Saturday, 10/24
9-11am PT/12-2pm ET
ONLINE
Whether you’re writing about being a mother, being mothered, choosing not to become a mother, or examining your relationship to the idea of motherhood itself, motherhood is a complex subject to unpack on the page. In this two-hour workshop, participants will explore both the possibilities and challenges of writing about motherhood. We’ll discuss the emotional complexities of writing about family and consider different narrative approaches that can help us find perspective and distance when exploring personal experiences. Through an idea generation exercise, participants will identify memories, questions, themes, and potential stories connected to their relationship with motherhood. Participants will come away with new ideas for writing about motherhood, a greater understanding of different ways to approach the subject, and a selection of essays they can read for further inspiration.
Memoir & Motherhood Offers:
A space to explore the benefits and challenges of writing about motherhood and family
Guidance for navigating the emotional complexities of writing personal and family stories
Exploration of different narrative approaches for exploring complex experiences
An idea generation exercise to uncover memories, questions, themes, and potential stories
New ideas and inspiration for future writing, along with recommended essays for continued exploration
